Featured Recipe: Miranda Malisani’s Peach Walnut Crumble

There may be no other fruit that has more expressions, quotes and lyrics dedicated to it then the peach. They’ve been celebrated in popular culture and in creative works by everyone from Timbaland, to the Steve Miller Band, to Margaret Atwood and Roald Dahl.

It’s not surprising that the peach is so adored as there is no other comparison to the sweet and juicy ripe prunus persica (scientific name). What might surprise you is that there are over 2000 varieties of peaches in the world. 

Our Organic Ontario peaches are from Niagara and they are absolutely perfect right now. 

Peaches are not only a delicious summer snack, but will provide your body Vitamin C, Vitamin A, potassium, magnesium, calcium and the flavonoids, zeaxanthin, lutein and cryptoxanthin. These nutrients are helpful for supporting the immune system, eye health and the cardiovascular system. 

There are endless ways to incorporate peaches into your recipes, and this is one of my favourite peach recipes:

Peach Walnut Crumble with organic ingredients from Nature's Emporium

Peach Walnut Crumble

Ingredients: 

  • 2 lbs of Organic Niagara Peaches 
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp Nature’s Emporium Pure Maple Syrup 
  • 1 cup Organic Walnuts 
  • 1 cup Organic Large Oats 
  • 1/4 cup Vita Coco Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
  • 1 tsp Simply Organic Madasgar Vanilla 
  • 1/4 tsp Himalayan Sea Salt 
  • 1/2 tsp Simply Organic Ceylon Cinnamon 

Directions: 

  1. Preheat Oven to 350 F. 
  2. Wash and roughly chop all peaches, but 2 (for garnish)
  3. Add to a medium saucepan with maple syrup, vanilla and cinnamon and heat over medium for 10-12 minutes or until syrup is thicker and peaches are fork tender
  4. Meanwhile, in a high powered blender or food processor add walnuts, oats and sea salt and pulse until desired consistency. 
  5. Add crumble toppings to a bowl and stir in coconut oil and maple syrup until it’s evenly distributed 
  6. Add cooked peaches to a 9 inch square baking dish
  7. Add crumble on top. Completely cover the peaches
  8. Add slices of peaches on top 
  9. Cook for 18-20 minutes or until brown on top 
  10.  Serve hot or cold
