Recap: 2014 Run or Walk for Southlake Presented by Nature’s Emporium!
Another huge success for Southlake Hospital and our whole community at the 2014 Run or Walk for Southlake presented by Nature’s Emporium!
Yesterday marked a major moment of pride for our team here at Nature’s Emporium, as thousands of team members, friends and eager community contributors gathered together with one mission: to raise funds in support of Southlake Regional Health Centre and create better health for our community!
The sun was shining on the event once again this year, and despite cool morning temperatures, bright spirits were on display in the smiles shared by all of the attendees.
Participants of all ages and skill levels were on hand to run or walk individually, or as a team. With 2.5K, 5K, 10K, and children’s mini mile routes, the Run or Walk for Southlake Regional Health Centre presented by Nature’s Emporium brought true accessibility to the event, highlighted by those with strollers in tow and families with furry friends at leash ends!
A great warmup for a great event!
No athletic endeavor is complete without a proper warm-up, and we were greeted with a great one – hip shakes and all – led by an aerobics instructor and civic leaders representing the Town of Newmarket, Aurora, King Township and beyond.
Also hamming it up on stage was Nature’s president Joe D’Addario, a running enthusiast and big Southlake supporter.
This year’s run saw even greater numbers than last year – over 1500 attendees – which left everyone feeling optimistic for great results when the final tally is counted in early June (stay tuned for a big announcement on June 5!).
What is the Run or Walk for Southlake, Presented by Nature’s Emporium?
The annual Run or Walk for Southlake sees participants from all over our local area gather together to raise funds for Southlake Regional Health Centre, a full-service hospital located in Newmarket, Ontario that serves communities from southern York region to Muskoka.
Originally begun by the late Bob Hartwell, a well-known local businessman, civic leader and avid runner, the Run or Walk for Southlake has become one of the most significant fundraising initiatives for Southlake Foundation.
In 2013, Nature’s Emporium assumed the position of title sponsor for the event, and helped to raise its profile to new heights and greater success. The 2013 Run or Walk for Southlake Regional Health Centre presented by Nature’s Emporium raised over $226,000 in support for Southlake Regional Health Centre and witnessed nearly 1,500 participants cross the finish line.
