June is Men’s Health Month: It’s Time to Move Past Old Clichés!
Take hold of your health and wellness with this month’s Healthy Tips for Men’s Health Month!
It’s 2016, yet the cliché about men neglecting their health is still very alive.
While it may give ample fodder for light-hearted jokes, it’s truly no laughing matter. According to the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, men are 25% less likely to have visited a health-care practitioner in the past year, and 40% more likely to have skipped recommended cholesterol screenings – contributing to reduced lifespans.
It’s obviously time to shed the old clichés and embrace a new way – and we’ve put together the following list of healthy tips for Men’s Health to help you do just that!
1) Skip the Fast Food.
Canadian studies show that men are more likely to eat fast food than women, which often contains high amounts of unhealthy fats that can be damaging to your cardiovascular health.
2) Guard Against Osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis affects 1 in 5 men. You can protect yourself by increasing your intake of vitamin D, and by consuming bone supporting nutrients like Vitamin K2, Boron, Magnesium, Calcium and Silicon.
3) Boost Your Fibre Intake.
In addition to enhancing cardiovascular health by lowering cholesterol and improving regulation of blood-sugar levels, increasing your intake of fibre can lower your risk of colorectal cancer – a major risk for men.
4) Get Active.
Regular exercise throughout your life is identified as the most significant contribution you can make to your overall health. Every system in your body benefits from even moderate exercise. From Yoga, to weight training, to daily walks, there’s an option for anyone looking to get active!
